Self Love

In the past two years there has been so much loss of life in the adoption community and it has been weighing heavily on my heart and mind. Every time an adoptee ends their life, they are passively validating in other adoptee’s minds that somehow they were right in their judgment- that the reason for our abandonment was because we are unloveable, unwanted, and purposeless. I know this, because I continue to struggle with feeling worthy of love. But the truth is, all of us are inherently lovable. We have enormous value as people. The reason why we were placed for adoption does not define who we are or limit who we can become. We do not need to earn the love of our families or friends who chose us, because they chose us. They love us unconditionally. We need to learn to love ourselves unconditionally- to find ways our adoption empowers us as a community until all of us choose life instead of despair. ~Alisha
